I just had the most expensive scrambled eggs on toast ever, in the food hall at Cribbs Causeway, Bristol served up by Patisserie Valerie.
What actually topped it was the addition of mushrooms and a tomato, each serving costing £1.50. Couple spoonfuls of button mushrooms, probably out of a tin and one medium sized tomato cut in half and grilled. Yup, £1.50 for a medium sized grilled tomato !!!
Yes, I know Patisserie sounds a bit swanky but it was only a "freacking" food hall in a Mall after all. It came to just over £15 for the two of us, six slices granary bread, six pats butter, some scrambled egg (about three eggs) couple spoonfuls of button mushrooms, one grilled tomato and two coffee's.
Now, it may not sound so grand but by heck, if your in a Mall Food Hall then MacDonald's and KFC are much better value that's for sure.
I still cannot get over one grilled tomato being £1.50, absolutely unbelievable.

With all due respect, Patisserie Valerie is a successful business, and is known for being rather expensive. It's in a Mall to bring people like you and me a "little bit of luxury" to their "normal" lifestyle. You go there with the intention of spending a little bit more than a KFC of McDonalds. Would you say the same thing if you had eaten from a PV in the centre of London, or even Cabot Circus? PLUS, they openly have their prices in a menu, so had you and your partner not wanted to spend £15 on scrambled eggs you could have just walked out!
Hmm . . Patisserie Valerie owners? I think you might just be missing the point.
Yep, there was a menu but it does state 2 grilled tomatoes £1.50. Now I know mathematics was never my strong point but even my limited knowledge says two tomatoes cut in half equals 4 halves not two!
You may get away with this in swanky Belgravia or Holland Park but Cribbs Causeway ! Nah !
You may be under the impression that Patisserie Valerie adds a little bit of exclusivity to Mr Average's mundane life but sorry to say in my book a rip off is a rip off no matter how you package it !
